of Uganda Exports Promotion Board
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The first Uganda Export Promotion Council (UEPC), the predecessor of Uganda
Export Promotion Board (UEPB), was established in 1969. The second UEPC
was established under parliamentary staute no.7 of 1983, which replaced
the 1969 statute. The UEPB was restructured and rationalised in response
to the new dynamic changes under the aegis of the World Bank/IMF structural
adjustment programs that aimed at establishment of a free market economy.

MINISTRY
The board falls under the Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry and
maintains close liaison with the Commissioner for Trade, permanent Secretary
and the Minister of State for Trade as well as the Senior Minister.
THE BOARD
OF DIRECTORS
The board status is the excellent law that established a broad-based Board
that is Private Sector sensitive. Out of eleven Board Members (excluding
the CEO), six members, including the Chairman, come from the Private sector.
The Board constitution is as follows:

8) One representative of the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic

9) One representative of the Ministry of Foreign affairs. - Government
10) One representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal industries
and Fisheries - Government
11) One representative of the Uganda Investment Authority - Government
12) One Executive Director -CEO/Secretary
MANAGEMENT
The management team is headed by the Executive Director who is a board
member and Secretary. There are three departments: Finance and administration,
Market Research and trade and Trade promotion and Publications served
with Technical officers and support staff.
THE VISION
OF THE BOARD
The vision of UEPB, like that of Uganda, is attaining an economic status
where the country will earn enough foreign currency from export of goods
and services, enough to pay for all our national import needs with a surplus
for investments and other needs.
THE MISSION
OF THE BOARD
The mission of UEPB is to promote and develop Uganda's exports to a sustainable
level by pragmatically popularising, dynamysing and entrepreneurialising
them (exports) in the regional and International markets.
THE EXPORT
STRATEGIC PLAN (2000-2004):
The board has designed and developed a roll-on-five-year Strategic Plan
which articulates the export policy, programs and activities of the Board.
the five Pillars of the Export Plan are:
1) Policy initiation, formulation, advocacy, implementation, and constant
review.
2) Information Delivery systems: Information gathering, analysis, interpretation
and dissemination.
3) Exporters' and Export Facilitators' Skills development through seminars,
workshops, public lectures and other fora.
4) Market research and development, trade fairs, Expositions, Exhibitions
and trade Missions.
5) Product Development and Adaptation: Product profiles, pricing, labeling
and packaging techniques.
