POLICY PLATFORM – YOUR PODIUM FOR CONTRIBUTING
TO NATIONAL EXPORT POLICY DEVELOPMENT AND REFORMS
Participatory approaches have virtually
become the basis of decision making in both Public
and Private Sectors. People identify with and readily
lend support to programs and policies in which they
had an input when being made. This in turn positively
influences the success of such programs. This is the
approach that leading development institutions such
as the World Bank have appreciated and are gradually
adopting in tackling global development issues.
The Uganda Export Promotion Board
realises the importance of this approach in executing
one of its fundamental mandates; that of advising
Government on matters of export policy formulation.
In its recent organizational restructuring, The Board
set up a policy analysis desk which has consequently
come up with this platform. The Board strongly feels
and is committed to let your views regularly, interactively
and proactively influence export trade policy issues
in the country.
The business community, ademicians,
international trade experts etc, are called upon to
regularly voice their opinions and views on this particular
page.
These will be collected on a regular
basis, synthesized and forwarded to Government so
that they could be factored in the export policy frameworks
of government. They will also be used to develop concept
papers for initiating and formulating high priority
Export Development Projects.
We will pay particular attention
to creative ideas and practical propositions. As Handy,
a famous management guru once said and I quote, "People
need to be educated on unsolved problems not those
that already have answers” unquote.
This is what our country needs to enhance her export
development capacity. |
