UGANDA AT THE WORLD EXPO 2005 AICHI, JAPAN
The Ugandan Cranes are yet to qualify for the
World Cup. But come March 25th 2005, the official opening of the
World Expo 2005 in Aichi, Japan, Uganda will be among the 33 African
States taking part in the six-month event. Among the striking
exhibits at the Uganda pavillion would be displays of the famous
mountain gorilla, Uganda's birds, the Crested Crane, coffee, vanilla,
handicrafts, Uganda waragi, and organic fabrics etc.
The self-financed business community has been
mobilised sufficiently and over 15 companies selling Ugandan original
product assortments are set to depart for Nagoya, the center of
the Expo 2005 at the end of March 2005. All arrangements for their
stay have been completed.
Each developing country was allocated 9 sq. metre space for commercial
sales. Team Uganda will utilize this space for the six-month period.
Uganda's coffee shall be served and sampled to
the visitors at a designated counter by M/S Zigote Coffee. Other
Ugandan coffee companies represented in Japan have been taken
care of at the pavilion.
Uganda Export Promotion Board has been at the
forefront of all the preparations for the last two years. Institutions
like Uganda Tourist Board, Uganda Investment Authority, Uganda
National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Uganda Wildlife Authority
and other members of the private sector, all played leading roles
in the preparatory meetings that have finally led to the full
representation of Uganda at this event
Ambassador James Baba, the 2003 President’s
Export Award, “Ambassador of the Year” Silver medallist
and his Tokyo Embassy staff have been outstanding in coordinating
the parties involved in the organization. He cranes like the Ugandan
crane over every detail and shuttles like a Ugandan cob, from
office to office in search of solutions as he finalises his grand
design to market Uganda in this unique world market place.
Without his tireless efforts and guidance Uganda would have missed
out. Team Uganda could not have had a better host.
To date, Uganda's Exhibition Directors, Mr. Baguma
Mutooro (UEPB) and Mr. Jecho Amai (MTTI) are almost through with
the stand design, internal layout and decorations in readiness
for the official opening.
The EXPO 2005 comes to a conclusion on 25th September
2005 but before then Uganda will hold its "National Day"
on 7th September 2005 when it will host the “whole World"
in Aichi.
The Government is expected to send a high-powered delegation then.
