The
Association Africa Agro Export (AAFEX) Launch in Kampala

UEPB in conjunction with
the French Embassy in Uganda launched the Association Africa
Agro Export (AAFEX) on 4th June 2003 in Kampala. AAFEX is
a French initiative established in 2002 with support from
ADEPTA (Association for the Development of International
Trading in Agro-Food Products and Techniques) and other
French public agencies such as the Ministry of Agriculture,
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Centre for the Development
of Enterprises (CDE).
The overall objective of
AAFEX is to promote exports of African companies in the
Agricultural Agro-food Sector towards external markets.
Beneficiary countries include Benin, Mali, Cameroon, Cote-d‘Ivoire,
Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Ghana and Senegal.
The countries are represented on the AAFEX Board of Trustees,
and Mr Mutooro Baguma of UEPB is currently the Uganda representative
on the Board.
Membership categories to
AAFEX include;
(1) Active Members: Enterprises with Headquarters
in Africa and can boast of an export activity in agriculture
or agro-food produce
(2) Associate Members: Agencies/enterprises
likely to provide a useful contribution to the achievement
of the Association’s objectives, and
(3) Honorary Membership: given to physical/Corporate
bodies whose presence with the association is likely to
facilitate its development.
Specific Objectives
of AAFEX
1. Organise the participation of African enterprises in
key exhibits and expositions
2. Organize promotion and information activities
3. Provide any documentation so as to better inform members
about commercial opportunities and technological developments
4. Assist enterprises to observe standards and development
of quality control
5. Represent members of the Association at Institutional
fora (private/public)
6. Sign cooperation agreements with groupings or associations
with similar aims
AAFEX organised for the participation of
its members in the SIAL Exhibition in Paris and the PMLA
in Amsterdam in 2002.
Participation in the AAFEX Association is through membership
and at the time of the launch in Kampala, an Action Plan
for the Year 2003 had been drawn up that included entrepreneurial
promotional activities, a workshop on ISO certifications
and possibilities of supporting such certification, and
participation in at least one exhibition.
