Understanding the structure and evolution of international markets is essential for both exporting and importing firms. Outward oriented firms need to scan the world market for product and market diversification opportunities as well as opportunities for supplier diversification. To respond to such market information demands Uganda Export Promotion Board in partnership with the International Trade Centre (ITC) is offering a new market analysis service known as Uganda Trade map to firms and business support institutions in Uganda. The Uganda Trade map provides global market information as well as an analysis of trade barriers; it is therefore an important tool that will allow firms and decision makers to have a more thorough understanding of the international market place. The Uganda Trade map covers more than 90% of the world trade flows and therefore provides the business community analytical steps in trying to find market opportunities for their products in a very systematic manner. In summary
the new tool will enable the business community carry out their business
activities in a more informed manner as it addresses many areas of
their concern such as; >> Analyzes the present export markets through the examination of the performance and dynamics of Uganda’s export markets for any product. It identifies the number and size of export markets and the concentration of exports and highlights countries where market share has increased. Information is provided on values, quantities, trends, market share, and the price per unit. >> Provides the user with an overview of the world’s major importing countries, with indicators on total import values and quantities, market share, unit values, and rankings. The tool also illustrates the extent of import concentration in the world markets and in which countries’ demand has increased greatly over the period for Ugandan products. >> Gives an overview of competitors in the global market. This highlights for example the positioning of Uganda in world exports, as well as positioning of her neighbors. >> Lists Uganda’s competitors in any leading market, with information on the export performance of these competitors, in terms of value, market share, quantities, and trends, showing the number of supplying countries and their performance in the market. >>
Allows a comparative assessment of import demand for related products
in the market under review. Uganda is the 14th country to obtain a national franchise from ITC to disseminate this market analysis tool. Interested users should subscribe with UEPB to acess this tool at a rate of US$ 200 (Two hundred) per year. For more
